Historic Shaw Rowhouse Receives AIA Potomac Valley Merit Award

Hill & Hurtt Architects is excited to share that Historic Shaw Rowhouse has received a 2024 AIA Potomac Valley Merit Award in the Residential Architecture category.

The renovation develops an architectural language inspired by the house's history and brings natural light deeper into the home through a redesigned back garden facade with large-scale windows and doors. Inside, existing fireplaces were restored with salvaged wood surrounds and new tile that references the home’s past while carrying a new material palette forward throughout the interiors.

“A thoughtful, respectful transformation of an historic property. The resulting interiors are light-filled and generous. It seems like there was a close relationship between architect and client,” the jury commented.
