Traditional Building Features Bethesda Residence in June Issue

6.2.23

Principal Eric Hurtt recently sat down with J. Michael Welton to discuss our Bethesda Residence project for Traditional Building’s June Issue.

The renovation of the 1990s developer home included significant changes inside and out, including a new Georgian-style front porch and walkway created by narrowing the original driveway and redefining the pedestrian approach to the home.

“It had a strange entry configuration,” said Hurtt. “A pedestrian had to descend the driveway in order to ‘find’ the stair to the front door. The driveway was narrowed, and that allowed the porch to extend across and become the primary entry, rather than secondary.”

Inside, originally small connections between spaces were enlarged while custom cabinetry and trim profiles were added to create a consistent design language throughout the home.

Thank you to J. Michael Welton and Traditional Building for taking the time to speak with Eric and feature the project.
